TOUR De KIRKWOOD TRIATHLON FAQs

Q:

How do I get to Kirkwood Park?

A:

Directions and links to maps are available on the Race Info page.

Q:

When is packet pick-up?

A:

Packet pickup will be held on Friday, July 25, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, July 26, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm outside the entrance to the Kirkwood Park Swimming Pool.  We’ll also have packet pickup from 6:00am to 6:45am on race day.  Packets will not be given out after 6:45am.

Q:

What time should I get to the race on Sunday?

A:

You should get to the race early enough to pickup your packet by 6:45am, if you don’t pick it up at one of the earlier times, and to setup your transition spot by 6:55am.  We want to try to clear the transition area before the race starts.

Q:

What is a serpentine swim?

A:

The swimmer swims up the right side of the lane and back down the right side of the lane and then goes under the lane rope to the next lane, repeating this process eight times.

Q:

How will my start time be determined?

A:

Swimmers will line up according to their estimated swim time in 1 minute increments, starting at 5 minutes.   So, if you swim an 8:30 for 400 yards you’ll want to line up in the middle of the “8 minute to 9 minute group.”

Q:

How does my team member know when to start their leg of the race?

A:

We will have an area located in the transition area where team members can safely hand-off the timing chip.

Q:

How many water stations will be on the bike course?

A:

Zero.  If you anticipate needing fluids during the bike portion, please carry what you need.

Q:

How many water stations will be on the run course?

A:

There will be one water station on the run course at the intersection of Monroe Ave. and Rifle Range Rd.  You will pass this water station 6 times on the run.

Q:

How can I volunteer at the Tour de Kirkwood?

A:

Click on the Volunteers button on the main page.

Q:

Can anyone follow me in a vehicle on the course?

A:

No, this would be very dangerous for you and the other athletes.  We will have race officials and volunteers on the bike course should you need assistance.

Q:

Where do I park?

A:

A parking map is available for download from the Race Info page.

Q:

How can my company sponsor this event?

A:

Click on the Sponsors button on the main page.

Q:

What type of timing system is used for the event?

A:

This year the Tour de Kirkwood Triathlon is teaming with Ultramax Event Services to offer chip timing.  Each athlete or team will wear a small timing chip strapped to their ankle.  This chip will be coded to each athlete or team.  Timing for each athlete/team will start automatically at the beginning of the swim and end at the finish line.

Q:

Can a participant in the race receive help in the transition area or any portion of the race?

A:

No, non-participants are not allowed in the transition area during the race.  Athletes should plan on not having outside assistance (i.e. family) during the race.

Q:

Will there be a pre-race meeting to discuss the course?

A:

Yes, the pre-race meeting will take place in the transition area around 6:50am.

Q:

Can a friend pick up my race packet?

A:

No, only the participant will be allowed to pick their packet.

Q:

What will happen if the event is cancelled due to inclement weather?

A:

In the event of inclement weather and the Triathlon is cancelled no refunds, make-ups, or credit will be given.

Q:

I’ve signed up for the race but now I can’t do it.  Can I get a refund?

A:

Nope.  You can, however, transfer your registration to someone else by contacting the race director before race-day.  No race-day transfers will be allowed.
